Hi everyone,
Just registered on the site and have been looking around the site and posted my wife"s situation, treatment, and a bit in the suggestion area.
Yes Tara it is very diffcult being the caregiver as you have to be very aware at all times how the person you are caring for is and be able to act as and when necessary.
Sometimes it is just making sure that the person is comfortable, had some food etc but sometimes you have to be aware when an emergency situation arises like I had to do when I thought my wife was about to die and had to call out an ambulance to 2 occassions during her chemotherapy treatment. You have to be strong (or at least seem to be) in order to give the person you are caring for the best possible help they need. Also the patient needs to feel confident with you in order that they can get through the days, weeks, months. They need to believe that you know what to do if anything happens, even if sometimes you don"t. You also need to be able to work out what they are feeling, what they are thinking and what they want you to do for them even if they don"t tell you. Yes it has been difficult, sometimes you can"t sleep for worrying about them which then makes you very tired during the day when you have so much to do, but when you are helping a loved one it is very rewarding to be able to do so. My wife has told me that she would not be able to cope if it wasn"t for me. This helps to keep me going. I am sure that most people appreciate all the help they receive from friends and family even if they are not well enough to say so. Take care. JimbePosted 1 year ago #
